Standard Project Report

Instant & Engineering Adhesives Manufacturing — Standard Project Report

Prepared by the Global Formulation team

Feasibility & Financials 1–3 Investment Configs Plant & Machinery 5-Year Model Funding-Neutral
A feasibility and financial project report for setting up a reactive-adhesive blending and precision-filling unit in India — a plant that buys in reactive monomers and oligomers and blends them with stabilisers, thickeners, tougheners, accelerators and dyes into a family of engineering adhesives: cyanoacrylate ("instant") adhesive, anaerobic adhesive (threadlockers, retainers, thread sealants, gasket makers), UV / light-cure adhesive, and two-part acrylic (MMA) structural adhesive, precision-filled into small bottles, tubes, pens and syringes. The monomers and base resins are all bought in; this is NOT a cyanoacrylate-monomer synthesis plant, and there is no monomer synthesis and no polymerisation in the plant — the adhesive cures at the customer's joint. A separate report on this store covers epoxy adhesives and compounds. Presents two independently costed investment configurations — a ₹5.11 crore standard blend-and-fill unit (90,000 kg/yr, sold as several million small packs; dry-room CA + anaerobic blending, precision micro-filling, QC lab; project IRR ~33.6%, payback ~3.1 years) and a ₹24.32 crore expanded multi-chemistry unit adding UV / light-cure, 2K MMA structural and an electronics-grade filling cleanroom. The report explains why there is no viable configuration smaller than the anchor: cyanoacrylate and anaerobic adhesives are moisture- and temperature-sensitive reactive monomers that must be blended under dry, inert conditions to hold a shelf life, precision-filled in grammes with controlled headspace, and QC-tested for fixture time, bond strength and torque — and hand-decanting bulk cyanoacrylate in a shed carries a real skin-bonding and product-liability risk. Includes India cyanoacrylate and anaerobic adhesive market analysis with cited sources (India CA market USD 146 mn 2024, ~5.9% CAGR; anaerobic ~7.2% CAGR), the blending-and-filling process at unit-operation level, plant & machinery lists with indicative costs, raw materials by functional class, infrastructure, manpower, the statutory roadmap, and a 5-year financial model on a 100%-own-funds basis. Does NOT include manufacturing formulations, recipes, stabiliser packages, cure systems, raw-material specifications or grades, brand names, or supplier lists. Cost basis September 2026, Tier-2 Indian industrial location. Indicative figures for preliminary planning; not financial, legal or technical advice.
The Opportunity

Instant & Engineering Adhesives Manufacturing in India — what the report covers

Instant and engineering adhesives are the small, high-value bottles that keep industry running — the drop of cyanoacrylate that tacks a component, the threadlocker that stops a bolt vibrating loose, the retaining compound that holds a bearing on a shaft, the UV adhesive that bonds a phone camera module, the structural acrylic that joins a metal frame without welding. A blend-and-fill unit buys in the reactive monomers and blends and precision-fills them; there is no monomer synthesis and no polymerisation in the plant. Products are sold in grammes, so the plant's output is measured in millions of small packs.

Market at a glance

India's cyanoacrylate adhesives market was USD 146.0 million in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 205.8 million by 2030 at a 5.9% CAGR, with India about 5.1% of the global market and UV-cured the fastest-growing technology (Grand View Research). The India anaerobic adhesives market — the fastest-growing in Asia-Pacific — is projected to reach USD 82.1 million by 2030 at a 7.2% CAGR, with threadlockers the largest product. Both segments grow faster than the overall adhesives market, driven by electronics manufacturing under "Make in India" and by automotive-component localisation.

Manufacturing process

Blending and stabilisation of a bought-in reactive monomer followed by precision filling, with no monomer synthesis and no polymerisation — the monomer is blended with the stabiliser package and modifiers in a jacketed, inert-gas-blanketed SS blender in a low-humidity room (anaerobic grades keep deliberate oxygen contact; cyanoacrylate excludes moisture), de-gassed and standardised, QC-tested for fixture time, lap-shear and breakloose / prevailing torque, and micro-filled in grammes into bottles, tubes and pens with controlled headspace.

Key statutory point

A solvent-free, effluent-free reactive-blending-and-filling operation is expected to fall in the CPCB Green or lower-Orange category (stated as an inference by analogy, not a citation naming reactive-adhesive manufacture) — but the reactive monomers carry a real process-safety profile (exothermic-runaway risk on a mis-blended batch, flammability, cyanoacrylate skin-bonding), so a Factory-Inspectorate process-safety review and hazard labelling with a skin-bonding first-aid statement apply, PESO / MSIHC applicability depends on the specific monomers and on-site quantities, and medical-grade cyanoacrylate is a separate, heavier regulatory regime outside this report's scope.

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

Does this report cover making the cyanoacrylate monomer?

No. The cyanoacrylate monomer, anaerobic base resin and UV oligomer are all bought in. Making cyanoacrylate monomer is a condensation-plus-cracking chemical plant, outside the scope of a Standard Project Report. This unit blends the bought-in monomer with a stabiliser package and modifiers, and precision-fills it — there is no monomer synthesis and no polymerisation in the plant.

Why can't I start smaller — hand-filling bulk super glue into tubes?

Because cyanoacrylate is a reactive monomer with a shelf life to protect. It cures on ambient moisture, so it has to be blended and filled in a low-humidity room with the monomer and finished goods held cool and dark. It needs dedicated, segregated, inert-blanketed blenders (a cross-trace with anaerobic ruins a batch, and moisture or base ingress can cause an exothermic runaway), automatic precision micro-fillers for gramme-level fills, and a QC lab with an accelerated-ageing programme to make any shelf-life claim. Hand-decanting in a shed gives an unstable product with no QC and a real skin-bonding and eye-injury product-liability exposure — it is a repacking activity, not manufacture.

Why is packaging such a large cost — 15 to 17% of the sale price?

Because the products are sold in grammes. A 2–50 g precision bottle with a nozzle and dropper tip, a blister card and a carton costs a lot relative to the tiny fill weight inside it, and much of that packaging is imported or specially tooled. It is a structural feature of this business, not an inefficiency — and it is one reason yield discipline on the filling lines is a real margin lever.

What does an instant & engineering adhesive plant cost?

Two configurations. A ₹5.11 crore standard blend-and-fill unit (90,000 kg/yr sold as several million small packs — the anchor; dry-room cyanoacrylate and anaerobic blending, precision micro-filling and a QC lab; project IRR ~33.6%, payback ~3.1 years, break-even 30.5% of capacity), and a ₹24.32 crore expanded multi-chemistry unit adding UV / light-cure, 2K MMA structural and an electronics-grade cleanroom — above the MSME band, a growth step. The imported reactive monomer is the dominant cost and the main economics risk.

Will this report give me the formulation?

No. Standard Project Reports are feasibility and financial studies only. Raw materials are described by functional class (e.g. "anionic surfactant"), never by grade, trade name or supplier. For production-ready formulations, see the matching Global Formulation handbook.

How are the investment figures arrived at?

Each configuration is costed bottom-up from researched equipment, premises and manpower — not scaled from a single template. The report presents the total funds required (cost of project + working capital) on a 100%-own-funds basis; it does not assume or advise on how you raise the capital.

What format is it and how do I get it?

A PDF, delivered by instant download link the moment payment is confirmed, and kept in your library. Up to 5 downloads are included.

How current are the costs?

The cost basis is August 2026, benchmarked to a Tier-2 Indian industrial location against public marketplace listings and MSME project profiles. All figures are indicative and must be verified with vendors and professionals before you commit funds.
